Effect of Defects on Structural Integrity in High-Heat-Input Weldment

With the rapid increase in size of container ships, steel plates used for ship hulls have increased thickness. The use thick leads to an welding. Alternative welding processes such as electro gas (EGW), with high heat input been replacing multi-pass flux cored arc process. Shipbuilding companies tended EGW increasingly improve productivity. However, because toughness tends decrease thicker plates, brittle fracture requireded more attention. Although some research on high-heat-input weld joints has performed, much less attention paid estimating integrity defective joints. purpose this study was determine reliability plates. To do so, investigated. In addition, estimate welds, fatigue characteristics experimentally reproduced welds were examined. Based these investigations, engineering critical assessmentwas conducted. As a result, standard allowable defect field application according type is proposed.
